Response to "Indian Education". In some ways, this piece reminded me of "School Days of an Indian Girl" by Zitkala-Sa. Sherman Alexie may have been alluding to that in "Indian Education" especially in his second grade section. His teacher sends a letter home telling his parents to either cut his hair or keep him home from school.

On the surface, the selection "Indian Education," by Sherman Alexie, is a brief summary of Alexie's school experience as a minor.
